When you registered your Michigan boat, you received a validation (or year) sticker with your registration. And you received a white registration paper (similar to the one for your vehicle), so what’s the difference and where are your Michigan MC Numbers?
The state only issues the validation (year) sticker with your Michigan MC Number registration. It has a year 2-digit date on it and it’s in a color which changes with every year. It is valid for 3 years. You as the boater are responsible for purchasing and applying your own MC numbers. We get a lot of calls here (because we are the only phone number you CAN call about Michigan MC Numbers) so people ask us a lot of questions about registering boats (which we answer but tell them that we’re not the state), but the most interesting one is “where do I find my Michigan MC numbers?”
They are on the white piece of paper that is perforated in the middle in the upper right corner. It will say MC 1234 AB (with the 1234 AB being YOUR unique set of letters and numbers). THAT is what you’ll put on your boat. There is ALSO a number on the validation (year) sticker too but that is NOT the one that goes on the boat.
The second question we get is where can you get Michigan MC Numbers. Well, right here! We do occasionally get people who then say “OK, I’ll get them from the hardware store” which we shake our heads – it’s CHEAPER to order our custom one-sticker application than it is to pay $5-7 for each single number. And the single strip number sequence we make custom for you goes on in under a minute!
The number placement and your year sticker always goes to the RIGHT of your numbers (shown here, from a few years back, on my own boat.) So on the starboard side, shown here, it’s on the bow side, but on the port side, it’ll be at the back of the numbers but away from the bow.
The validation sticker is the year sticker, as the boater, you’re responsible for obtaining and installing your Michigan MC Numbers. Get them right here:

This Michigan MC number set belongs to the owners of Michigan MC Numbers.com. It is in Geometric font and the color is Aqua (we have this as a limited edition color in our store – until we sell out, we’ll have it!) We purchased a limited edition roll to do our custom boat graphics (shown below). If we can design a custom boat graphic for you, contact us!
