The State of Michigan’s MC number requirements (read more here) are very specific, and our numbers comply with all regulations – size, font, and letter spacing. Just remember to pick a color that contrasts with your boat’s hull color. If your hull is white, black or blue numbers offer the required contrast. If your hull is colored or dark, you can choose lighter colors, or even specialty metallic and carbon-fiber look colors (as shown below.)

How fast will I get my numbers?
We run numbers generally within 2 days of receipt of order, unless we post otherwise on our web site (e.g. when we are vacationing on a Michigan lake somewhere!) This means your order usually goes out within 48 hours, and then is mailed from East Lansing, MI. For most points in Michigan, this is a 3-4 day delivery (longer to the U.P. and shorter to Grand Rapids and Metro Detroit.) If you order on a Monday (or Sunday night) before 8am, you will get usually receive your order by Friday in time for your lake-boating weekend adventures. Contact us directly if you need your numbers sooner and we can arrange for overnight (extra) shipping. We cannot control the post office, and all packages are sent first class.
If you order on a Friday, you’ll have them the following week, mid week, in time for a long weekend.

Boat Registration Stencils
Stencils are designed for plastic roto-molded hulls like kayaks and sport boats that are not fiberglass. These stencils are paint mask stencils. You apply them as easily as our vinyl Michigan MC Numbers above, choosing fonts/typefaces below, but once affixed, you spray paint your numbers permanently on your hull. If you use a powered kayak (small motor) or have a small fleet of rental canoe or kayak or small sail boats, you’re required to have MC numbers displayed on these motor kayaks, rental kayak, canoe or sailboats.

Q. How fast will I receive my MC number stickers?
A. We usually ship within 48 hours or receiving your completed order. We ship M-F. So if you order on Saturday afternoon your numbers are usually run on Monday and ship that same day. They go out first class in a business sized envelope, so you’ll get them in 2-3 days in most of Michigan.
Q. Can I use another font, such as a script or italic font?
A. The State of Michigan has specific rules about the style of the letters. According to the state, “All letters and numbers must be plain block characters at least 3 inches high.”
Q. I’d like to have some fancy numbers, with shading and multiple colors, like in the boat store catalog. Can you do those?

Watercraft – Registration Requirements
All watercraft, unless exempt, must be registered with the Department of State and display a registration decal. Once a registration number has been assigned, it cannot be transferred to another watercraft. For most watercraft, the registration fee is based on length. All registrations expire on March 31 in the third year of issuance.
Watercraft exempt from registration are:
Those 16 feet or shorter, propelled by oars or paddles, and not used for rental or commercial purposes; Nonmotorized canoes and kayaks not used for rental or commercial purposes, rafts, surfboards, sailboards, and swim floats, regardless of length; and Watercraft registered in another state and used only temporarily in Michigan.
